31 injured as Israeli police and Palestinians clash at Al-Aqsa Mosque

At least 31 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli police at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem on April 22, 2022. Tensions have been heightened in part by the Muslim holy month of Ramadan coinciding with the Jewish celebration of Passover, which brings more Muslim and Jewish visitors to the compound. Palestinian worshippers have been angered by repeated visits to the site by Jewish worshippers, who are permitted to enter but may not pray there. Israeli police said its forces intervened when hundreds of people began hurling rocks and fireworks. Meanwhile, Israel carried out its first air strikes on the Gaza Strip in months after a rocket launched from the Palestinian territory landed in Israel.
