A ceasefire between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah is expected to take effect at 4am local time (0200 GMT) on November 27, 2024, after both sides accepted an agreement brokered by the United States and France. US President Joe Biden announced the deal on November 26. The accord is meant to clear the way for an end to fighting along the Israel-Lebanon border that has killed thousands of people since it was ignited by the Gaza war last year.
