Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheung Yuet-ngor said on July 6, 2021, that the planned overhaul of the city’s data privacy laws will only target illegal doxxing activities. She was responding to a joint industry submission that includes Google, Facebook and Twitter, voicing concerns over the broad wording of the proposed anti-doxxing legislation. Lam said that fears voiced by the US tech firms, which warned the bill would discourage them from investing or offering their services in Hong Kong, will be proved false. She also urged parents, teachers and religious leaders to monitor and report any illegal activity by local youths.
