Local residents in the Hungarian city of Debrecen have staged a protest against the construction of an electric vehicle battery plant in the area by the Chinese firm Contemporary Amperex Technology. They worry water will be diverted away from farmlands to the factory, which needs large amounts of water to cool its equipment. They also allege factory emissions will result in long-term harm to the local environment.
