TikTok has begun restoring its service in the US after president-elect Donald Trump revealed on January 19, 2025, his plan to temporarily block a nationwide ban on TikTok. Hours after the short-video app went dark to comply with a federal law meant to force TikTok to sever ties with its Chinese parent ByteDance, Trump said he would issue an executive order to restore it. He said after he is sworn in on January 20, he would protect companies from liability if they host or distribute TikTok. He also called for a final resolution to put 50 per cent of the ownership in US hands.
