Qiao Ya is one of the performers who migrates outdoors at night to live-stream on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok. She said there’s heavy competition in indoor live-streaming. But while working conditions are tougher outdoors, it gives her more chances to earn tips from viewers who reward her efforts for performing out in the elements.
