Chinese foreign minister shores up ties with Arab League on final stop of Africa tour

Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang was in Cairo on January 15, 2023, for talks with Egyptian and Arab League officials. It marked the final stop of a multi-leg trip to Africa meant to shore up ties with the resource-rich continent. Qin’s week-long tour to Angola, Gabon, Benin, Ethiopia and Egypt came as Beijing and Washington vie for influence in the region.
