Macau shuts down for mass testing after 31 people test positive for Covid-19

The gambling mecca of Macau remained largely shut on June 20, 2022, as residents lined up for Covid-19 tests after the city’s first outbreak in 250 days triggered orders of mass testing. The city, which neighbours Hong Kong, recorded 31 positive cases as of June 20, 2022. The government, which adheres to mainland China’s strict zero-Covid policy, ordered parks, businesses and restaurant dining to temporarily close. The city’s casinos, a vital part of its economy, remained open.
