Yasmin Lari, Pakistan’s first female architect, has come up with a design that helps protect vulnerable villages from deadly floods that devastate the country annually. The 82-year-old was behind the construction of 100 mud huts in Pono Colony that were able to withstand the worst of the devastating floods in 2022. Now she hopes to extend the project to 1 million homes ahead of the next monsoon season while also creating jobs for the villagers.
