Voting may be a constitutional right for all adults in Pakistan, but many women in the country’s rural villages are not allowed to cast their votes in the coming February 8, 2024, general elections. In central eastern Pakistan’s Dhurnal, the ban has been in place for more than 50 years under a patriarchal system. Fears of a community backlash and the threat of divorce have also stopped women from exercising their right to vote.
