“Floating toilet” helps Cambodia’s floating villages avoid waterborne diseases

Some 100,000 villagers living in floating houses over Cambodia’s Tonle Sap lake lack proper sanitation systems. Many of the villagers defecate directly into the lake that they also use for cooking, washing and bathing. A local social enterprise, Wetlands Work, introduced “floating toilets” to filter the sewage to prevent disease, but the high cost of installation hinders widespread adoption.
