Hundreds of people had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in a slum in Seoul early January 20, 2023. Up to 60 homes were believed to have been gutted in Guryong Village, which is described as one of the last remaining slums in the South Korean capital. Authorities said more than 800 rescuers were mobilised after the fire broke out just before 6.30am. By the afternoon of the same day, no casualties had been reported.
