India's first solar-powered village improves lives of working families

India has unveiled its first solar-powered village. Located in the western state of Gujarat, the nearly US$10 million government-funded project involved setting up over 1,300 rooftop panels on residential and government buildings connected to a power plant. It has benefited nearly 7,000 residents, mainly potters, tailors, farmers and shoemakers. India is the world’s third-largest emitter of carbon dioxide, behind China and the United States.
