Exceptional monsoon rains submerge a third of Pakistan, killing more than 1,100 people

The death toll from the floods in Pakistan has surpassed 1,100. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on August 30, 2022, that the South Asian country has been experiencing “a monsoon on steroids”, issuing an appeal to the international community for contributions to a US$160 million fund for flood victims.
