Sri Lankan protesters attempted to storm the country’s presidential office on March 15. 2022, amid the worst financial crisis in its modern history. A crowd marshalled by the main opposition party surrounded the office and clashed with police, who resisted efforts to storm the building. This came after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa met with a visiting International Monetary Fund delegation in an attempt to resolve Sri Lanka’s deepening financial crisis, caused by a foreign currency shortage and debt problems.
