A court hearing for Myanmar’s ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been adjourned to April 1, 2021, according to her lawyer. This marks the second postponement of the case. The deferral was caused by internet disruptions in the country affecting the video conferencing that Suu Kyi has been using to appear at the hearing.
Suu Kyi’s lawyer Khin Maung Zaw said on March 24, 2021, that the new trial date has him wondering if it is “an act of April Fools’”.
Suu Kyi is accused of bribery, illegally importing handheld radios and breaching Covid-19 rules. Her lawyers have requested that the trial should not be held via video conferencing.
