Chinese students in Australia targeted in ‘virtual kidnapping’ scams, police say

Chinese students in Australia have been targeted in “virtual kidnapping” scams, local police said. The students were forced to stage their own abductions after getting phone calls from fraudsters pretending to be Chinese officials. The scammers would then use the fake kidnapping photos or videos to obtain money from victims’ family overseas.
