This week’s question: What is a childish habit you hope to keep even as you grow older?

To take part, drop us a line via this form or email us at [email protected] by 11.59pm on November 8. Tell us your name, age and school.

Here are all the strange items students uncovered ...

Cheung Hiu-ying, 16, Leung Shek Chee College: The weirdest thing I have found in my home was a black-and-white photo of a man that I have never seen. The photo was in the middle of a history book. I thought that picture might have been of a celebrity in the past but after I checked the whole book, I could not find anyone who had the same appearance as the man in the photo. I then asked my parents to take a look at the photo and see if they knew the man, but they had never seen or heard of him. I thought it was very strange that I found a photo of a man that none of us in the family were able to recognise.

Lily Luo Uenyi, 15, TWGHs Li Ka Shing College: It is quite surprising to find antiques in a modern home. I found a coin from the Republic of China period with the face of Yuan Shikai on it while sweeping the house. Yuan was the former president of the Republic of China during the 1910s. Imagine how amazed I felt when I realised that the coin has been a loyal witness of history. Now, the coin is still with us. It is locked in an old copper box, next to my precious history book collections.

Tac Cheng Cheung-fung, 17, Yan Oi Tong Tin Ka Ping Secondary School: While decluttering my desk at home I found a funny-looking chest with “Colourful Stones” written in curly handwriting on it. Inside, it had a collection of stones in all shapes and sizes. Some have colourful glowing patterns while some have a smooth texture. Then, I remembered that I always picked up weird-looking yet attractive stones and put them into my “special collection chest” when I was little. Now when I look at it, although it looks weird, it not only stores stones, but also has childhood memories.

Anthony Huen Yat-fung, 15, TWGHs Li Ka Shing College: Last week, my family and I tidied up our house. When I was working on the closet, I found a dusty old box. Because of my curiosity, I opened it immediately without my parents’ permission. I found so many old toys, such as yo-yos, a slinky, Plarail Toy Train and Hot Wheels. All these are toys that I have never seen before. The one that caught my eye most was the Game Boy. It was a very popular game machine in the past. I was very surprised that my home had this machine.

Top 10: What has someone borrowed from you but never given back?

Linus Chan Ho-fong, 13, King Ling College: The weirdest thing I have ever found in my home is an old necklace. I found it when I was tidying up the house for Lunar New Year. I brought it to my mother, and she told me a story of how that necklace belonged to my great-grandfather, who had served in the army. I was shocked when I heard that. My mother brought me to his grave during Ching Ming Festival. I’m still shocked to this day that someone in my bloodline had once served in the army.

Joker Chan Tsz-sui, 18, Fanling Rhenish Church Secondary School: I remember when I was looking for some snacks in a cabinet, I saw a can of cat food. I did not know why there was cat food when our family has never kept a cat. Until now, I still do not know the truth. Maybe someone loves eating it? Unbelievable!

Poon Wing-yu, 15, Pui Kiu College: I once found a wooden box inside the kitchen. It was hidden in a cupboard that had a water pipe. I believe that the wooden box had been left by the person who lived here before. When I opened it, I found some rice and beans. The smell was so unbearable that my mum threw it afterwards. I actually expected some money or treasure inside that box.

Priscilla Leong Pui-sze, 13, Shun Tak Fraternal Association Leung Kau Kui College: A dead crab. It seems impossible, but it’s completely true! One day, when I woke up, I smelled something terribly fishy which really disgusted me, so I bent down to see what was underneath my bed. To my surprise, it was a dead crab! The scene was dreadfully shocking, so I immediately shouted with my mouth wide open. I guess it crawled from my neighbour’s house. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Top 10: What is a habit you picked up from your parents?

Kelvin Chan Man-hin, 15, Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College: The weirdest thing I have found in my home is a bunch of receipts. I tend to keep all receipts from different shops such as McDonald’s, ShareTea and the restaurants in Ocean Park. I guess one reason why I kept these is that I want to save all the memories I have had with my friends, or maybe I am just too lazy to throw them away.

Law Meredith Tak-yan, 13, Stewards Pooi Tun Secondary School: The weirdest thing in my home I’ve seen is an iPod. It is full of dust and I tried to charge it to see if it could turn on. And it actually worked. I opened the iPod which did not need a password, and I checked the photo album. I did not tell my parents, but I guess the photos are of my parents when they were still dating.
