Bundle up and get ready for a drop in temperature in Hong Kong later this week
The temperature is about the drop, but luckily so are pollution levels
The EPD predicts the air quality will improve over the rest of the week.Hong Kong’s temperature will drop towards the end of the week and early next week, according to the Hong Kong Observatory. The air quality is also set to improve, the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) has said.
The upcoming cold weather, caused by the winter monsoon, is expected to last until the end of next week, Lee Kwok-lun, a scientific officer at the Observatory, told Young Post.
“The cold air stream will travel down from mainland China into the southern Chinese coastal region and into Hong Kong. The weather will be cool over the south China coast in the latter part of this week. An intense winter monsoon will reach southern China early next week and it will become cold over the region,” said Lee.
Towards the end of this week, the weather will remain cloudy, with cool mornings and evenings. Temperatures will range between 14 and 19 degrees Celsius.
Early next week, temperatures will drop to between nine and 15 degrees Celsius, but there will be more bright patches.
Meanwhile, pollution levels won’t be as high as they were at the start of the week. The EPD predicts the air quality will be improved today and for the rest of the week, with low to moderate health risk rates.
On Monday, air pollution was five times worse than in Beijing, according to the World Air Quality Index Project Team. Hong Kong reached an unhealthy score of 192 points, whereas Beijing got 34.
Thirteen districts in Hong Kong ranged from moderate to “very high” health risk, including Central, Causeway Bay and Mong Kok, according to the EPD.
