Formerly an insurance actuary, New York chef Winston Chiu combines the skills from both careers to feed the needy and tackle food waste. His organisation, Feed Forward, matches recipients online with the restaurants offering meals of their choice. “We want to create technology and use it in a very inclusive way,” Chiu said. By giving people a choice, he believes food waste can be reduced.
His team is also building a live map that shows where food insecurity is an issue in the city. “Take the excess food, find the people that need food and match them up,” he said. “That's what we do with our technology.”
