‘We’re able to breathe again’, say George Floyd supporters as Derek Chauvin found guilty of murder

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin has been found guilty of murder and manslaughter in the death of African-American George Floyd. Hailing the verdict reached by a jury in the US state of Minnesota on April 20, 2021, Floyd’s family and supporters said, “We are able to breathe again.” In May 2020, Floyd was killed while being arrested by Chauvin and three other officers. Video of the incident, which showed Floyd pleading “I can’t breathe” as Chauvin pressed a knee into his neck, sparked worldwide protests against police brutality and racism.
