He protested in Hong Kong. Now he is rallying for Black Lives Matter in New York

As anger over police brutality and racism spread worldwide, some are comparing the US protests sparked by George Floyd’s death to anti-government demonstrations in Hong Kong.


“Hugo” joined the Hong Kong protests in 2019, and participated at the Black Lives Matter rallies in New York in June 2020. He spoke with the South China Morning Post about hiding his identity, his experience protesting in both cities and why, as a Hongkonger, he supports both movements.
