Crime in Hong Kong

Trap camera footage shows illegal turtle hunters in rural Hong Kong

A university research team has captured footage of a group of poachers hunting turtles in the wilderness near Hong Kong’s border with China. The lifting of pandemic travel restrictions in February 2023 has seen the return of illegal logging and wildlife poaching in Hong Kong, according to academics and conservationists. A check by the Post found that a wild golden coin turtle was priced at about 150,000 yuan (US$21,758), with viable males able to fetch more than 380,000 yuan (US$55,120).
