Hong Kong’s Chief Secretary John Lee Ka-chiu tendered his resignation on April 6, 2022 and announced his intention to run for the city’s top chief executive post. The city’s No 2 official emerged as the clear favourite after Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor announced on April 4 that she would not seek a second term, citing family reasons. Lee will be the sole candidate to receive the blessing of China’s central government in this year’s chief executive election, the Post has learned.
