Hong Kong handover 20th anniversary

Underground with the Hong Kong police confined space search team

A specialist police squad is preparing for its busiest ever period for Hong Kong’s upcoming 20th handover anniversary.

The confined space search team — tasked with scouring underground pipes and hidden corners of all sort — will be part of a wider 400-strong search team deployed in search for weapons, bombs and any signs of danger during the city’s annual celebration in July this year.

Over the years, the team was deployed during significant events, including the Olympic and Paralympics Equestrian Event in 2008 and 5th East Asian Games in 2009.
