Job losses hit Indian women disproportionately during Covid-19 pandemic

India’s economic slowdown, triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, has led to major unemployment in the nation. Women are particularly vulnerable as they’re often the first to be laid off by factory and company owners, who often view them as less skillful and flexible than male workers. The Consortium of Indian Industries said 60 per cent of the country’s current unemployed are made up of women.
