Two big cities in China, Guangzhou and Chongqing, announced an easing of pandemic restrictions on November 30, 2022, in a move that followed demonstrations across the country voicing frustration about life under the world’s toughest zero-Covid policies. The announcements regarding the cities in China’s south and southwest, respectively, did not mention recent widespread demonstrations across the country. Local authorities said the relaxation of measures would address “urgent concerns” of the public.
