The weeks leading up to the 2020 Lunar New Year are busy for Hong Kong’s Wah King Garden Arts Company. Sean Man is a second-generation manager of the large family-owned nursery in Sheung Shui that also owns seven flower shops in the city’s Prince Edward flower market. Flowers and plants play a huge role in the annual celebrations, and the company has been cultivating more than 30,000 narcissus or daffodil bulbs this year. Preparing the popular flowers is tricky, Man explains, because customers expect them all to bloom on Lunar New Year’s Day.
