Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and Thailand have joined forces to nominate traditional kebaya garments for inclusion in the United Nation’s prestigious list of intangible cultural heritage. Women in the region usually only wear kebaya blouses at formal occasions such as weddings. But in recent years, the centuries-old clothing which features intricately embroidered designs has been making a steady comeback for wearing in daily life.
