Hundreds of mourners and protesters gathered at a square in the Indonesian capital Jakarta on October 2, 2022, a day after at least 125 people were killed and more than 300 were injured during a stampede at a football match in Kanjuruhan stadium. Near the venue in East Java, demonstrators demanded justice after one of the world’s worst ever sports stadium disasters. Some questioned the use of tear gas by police, saying the move worsened a clash between officers and supporters who had stormed the pitch after their side lost a match.
