Rubbish piles up in Nepal’s capital as villagers protest dumping of garbage in Bancharedanda

Piles of rubbish have been accumulating in the Kathmandu Durbar Square, a Unesco World Heritage Site in Nepal. For weeks, proper waste disposal has become a chronic problem in the city after attempts to dump garbage in the Bancharedanda landfill site have been met with resistance from local villagers. Protesters allege that authorities have done little to provide infrastructure in the landfill site to properly manage the garbage.
