Ahhh, this looks so cosy! We could definitely be happy here.

Most of us have not been able to go on holiday this summer, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a happy place elsewhere! These students share places that make them smile, from bedrooms to beaches.

My happy place is my home. I feel safe and comfortable there. I have lots of great memories from there, with many more to come, I’m sure. Because of the pandemic, I have spent more time at home than I used to, which I’m really happy about. I cleaned up my room and found some old photos of my family and friends. I also get to spend more quality time with my family, and we play games and do activities together. My home will always have a special place in my heart and it means a lot to me.
Tsz Ki-li, 12, Renaissance College

Hong Kong, of course! It’s the place I have called home for 18 years. For me, this is where my friendships, relationships and memories were created; I feel truly comfortable here. Although Hong Kong has its problems, people are passionate about the city. Hong Kong is my happy place and I am proud to be a part of it.

What's a must-have item in your pencil case?

My happy place is definitely my study room. It’s like a mini house for myself. I have my computer, my charger, a good Wi-Fi connection, books, water, food and a bed. What more could a student ask for?
Vijay Sathappan Narayanan, 12, Island School

I really like to go to the beach, especially at night. It’s so relaxing to sit on the sand with no one around while you listen to the waves rolling in and out. I go there to clear my mind sometimes.

I am happiest when I am in the cinema. I love watching movies because they help me to relax and stay calm. Also, the chairs are super comfortable!

What's a lesser-known but great YouTube channel?

My classroom is energetic and filled with laughter. All the students have fond memories of each other and have great fun. I think the most important thing about a happy place isn’t the place itself, but the people who are around you and the unforgettable journey you have had together.
Livia Wong, 12, Marymount Primary School

School is definitely my happy place! I haven’t been to school since the start of this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and I am so bored at home. I find joy and happiness at school because I can socialise with my friends and learn something new!
Teresa Kwok, 15, South Island School

Many people may think happiness can be found in theme parks, where there are thrilling rides, beautiful scenery, memorable characters, and great food. I think who you are with is more important than where you are. Friends can bring happiness, but maybe you prefer to be alone with your innermost thoughts. Happiness can be everywhere if you look at it this way.
Chu Tin-yuet,18, Sing Yin Secondary School

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

My happy place is wherever I’m gaming with my friends. None of us have a care in the world and we can have fun doing  and saying whatever we want.
Dameer Taheem Gay, 14, Choate Rosemary Hall, US

My happy place is my bedroom, because it’s very quiet there. I can complete my school work, listen to music, or watch movies or TV shows without any distractions. Also, I have decorated my room with all the things I need, so I don’t have to leave it unless it is absolutely necessary.
