Read the responses to this week’s Write to Win prompt, and choose the answer you like most.

Cat: Reading. For those of you who don’t know, reading is just as addictive as Netflix is. And it’s even better because you can picture everything the way you want. However, in my opinion, this topic is all down to perspective. For example, people who enjoy birdwatching would say this activity is underrated. But people who dislike birdwatching would argue that this activity is overrated. So, in my perspective, what you think is underrated and overrated is all about your opinion and perspective, not the global perspective.

Bunny: Playing cards daily with your friends and family is an underrated experience that everyone should try. At school or home, hosting card game tournaments is a great way to strengthen relationships and even calls for strategic thinking. Whether it’s a friendly competition or a casual game night, the joy of playing cards with the people you love transforms ordinary moments into cherished memories.

Panda: Life in Hong Kong is about speed and efficiency, and one must thrive in this concrete jungle. Our routines are so rapid that we fail to stop and enjoy the view, and by that, I mean sharing a simple moment with the ones we love. My underrated go-to activity is to grab friends, grab burgers, play cards, laugh a little and watch the world revolve around us.

Dog: In this age of technological advancements, the reliance on digital albums for storing memories is high. However, these methods pale in comparison to physical reminders of fond moments. By creating time capsules, you capture fleeting heartbeats of life that exist in a poignant reminder of valuing every minute. Memories are kept alive and tangible by preserving photos or mementoes in a box. Unfortunately, this experience is underrated and receives little recognition for its significance. Everyone should try this as a meaningful way of remembrance and let their heartfelt memorabilia speak to the pricelessness of life.

Write to Win: What is the best way to show someone you appreciate them? (Round 2)

Monkey: Behind the flashy performances of the world’s soloists, ballets and musicals is a group of musicians supporting the show – the orchestra. They are the backbone of any concert, yet they are often unacknowledged. People usually underestimate and overlook the teamwork and commitment involved in every performance, from attending rehearsals to the emotional investment every piece brings. Even if you are an amateur, you can benefit from being part of community orchestras. Sharing the same passion while running your fingers through your instrument can make you feel calmer and at peace with the pleasure of creating music.

Tiger: An underrated experience that everyone should try is cooking from scratch. With the recent growing range of food products, people often rely on pre-packaged or frozen meals, which may not be the best for their health. Cooking with your own ingredients will not only let you personalise the nutrients and flavours, but it will also develop an invaluable set of culinary skills with a therapeutic touch. Although this may not be your average adrenaline-boosting activity, the fulfilment you gain upon completion is unparalleled.

Lion: What’s your greatest fear? Darkness? Exams? Failure? Regardless, confronting it is necessary. You’re probably thinking, “It’s not easy to be brave!” Did I mention being brave? Courage is essential, but it’s not the only thing keeping your wheels rolling towards success. Have you ever talked to the fearful side of yourself? If you do, you’ll gradually understand the meaning of your fear. Bravery may mask your fear, but if you embrace it, the missing piece of yourself will be unveiled because within your most significant fear lies a reflection of your true self. Bravery is powerful, but don’t underrate the experience of embracing your fear!

Sheep: Volunteering is a valuable yet often overlooked experience that everyone should try. Volunteering can benefit others, but research also shows that it improves your mental health and increases happiness. Furthermore, volunteering allows you to expand your social circle, meet new friends and improve your social skills. Volunteering brings meaning and purpose into our lives. Let’s join hands and make this world a better place!
