Congratulations to Chan Tsz-hin from Pui Ching Middle School, who has won the Gold Award for his research report titled On Non-Torsion Solutions of Homogeneous Linear Systems over Rings at the 2021 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards.

The Scientific Committee noted that Tsz-hin’s report was written at a postgraduate level and showed outstanding logical thinking and analytical ability. The next two prizes went to Luo On-ki from Pui Ching Middle School and Lai Wai-lok from St Paul’s Co-educational College, who won the Silver and Bronze Award, respectively.

Together with the five Honourable Mentions of equal ranking, HK$1 million in prize money will be shared among the winning students, and their teachers and schools, in recognition of their mathematics research projects, which meet the highest academic standards in terms of methodology, research, and scholarship.

Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong and a long-time supporter of the Hang Lung Mathematics Awards, attended as the guest of honour. The awards were co-organised by Hang Lung Properties Limited and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

More than 60 teams from around 40 secondary schools in Hong Kong took part in this year’s awards, which is a biennial event encouraging secondary school students to fulfil their creative potential in mathematics and science. Congratulations to all the winners, and a round of thanks to everyone who took part!
