The #InternetShutDown hashtag produced a lot of great memes, including this one based on “Squid Game.” Photo: Captured from Twitter user @SamCook_7
Like many people in Hong Kong, you probably woke up this morning and went, “What happened while I was asleep?”. Some of the biggest social media sites in the world, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, went offline for nearly six hours – driving people to other apps such as Twitter and Tiktok.
Twitter, obviously, took advantage of the situation.
The microblogging site surprised even themselves when they saw who replied:
Other brands chipped in to say “hi” to Twitter.
People took to the site to joke about waiting out the blackout.
Of course, there were plenty of references to the hit Netflix series, Squid Game.
All in all, it was nice to see everyone having a little fun with the situation.
