Happy International Cat Day! On the eighth day of the eighth month, people around the globe celebrate this day to raise awareness for felines and learn ways to protect them. To honour this day, Young Post will present eight meowtastic cats that have rocked the Internet, each with its own special charm!

Brother Cream
Brother Cream is somewhat of a local celebrity here in Hong Kong. Born in 2005, the shop cat rose to fame when he disappeared on July 10, 2012 and was found 26 days later. This incident made the headlines of many local newspapers. In 2013, Brother Cream’s owner published two books – Brother Cream in East TST and Cream Chicken Soup – which featured photos of the British Shorthair.

Lil BUB
Lil BUB is another US celeb known for her unique look. With her tiny li’l paws, big eyes and cheeky smile, she’s garnered 2.3 million followers on Instagram and more than three million likes on Facebook.

The 8-year-old starred in the documentary Lil BUB with Friendz in 2013, which won the Tribeca Online Festival Best Feature Film. Part of what makes Lil BUB so cute is an extreme form of feline dwarfism, which makes her limbs disproportionally smaller than her body.

Nora the Piano Cat
Nora has a special talent – playing the piano! A video of her playing piano went viral on YouTube in 2007. In fact, the 14-year-old cat has been playing the piano every day since she was one, and has captivated netizens all around the world. Talk about a true artist!

Venus the Two-Faced Cat
Nope, this isn’t a Photoshop trick. Venus is a chimera, which means she carries two or more sets of DNA in her cells, giving the American tortoiseshell her unusual appearance. With a face like a work of art, it’s no surprise that Venus has racked up 1.9 million followers on Instagram and more than 1.3 million followers on Facebook.

Pudge the Cutie-pie
With her big dewy eyes and little white “moustache”, Pudge is too adorable to be true. She doesn’t always look like she’s having the happiest time in her photos, but netizens can’t get enough of them. Currently, Pudge has 664,000 followers on Instagram and more than 336,000 likes on Facebook.

Grumpy Cat
This American Internet celebrity got her nickname from her permanently “grumpy” facial expression. Her real name is Tardar Sauce, and her iconic look is actually caused by an underbite and feline dwarfism.

A photograph of her famous frown that was posted on social news website Reddit in 2012 caught people’s attention, and she soon after became the subject of a viral internet meme.

Sadly, she passed away earlier this year in May at the age of seven, leaving her 2.3 million fans on Instagram heartbroken. She still lives on in Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book and the film Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.

Nala the Shocked Cat
Nala started out as a shelter kitten, but has since got more than 4 million IG followers, making her one of “the most sensational cats on Instagram” from the Guinness World Records. Of course, she also has her own book called Living YourBest Life According to Nala Cat and even a personal website. Her owner hopes to encourage more people to adopt pets from shelters instead of buying them from breeders.

Maru the Box-loving cat
Maru is a male Scottish Fold, and took the highway to fame through YouTube. Each of his videos has an average of 800,000 views, which has racked up a grand total of 387 million views for his channel.

He was dubbed “the most famous cat on the Internet”, with close to 30,000 followers on Instagram and more than 130,000 likes on Facebook to date. The 12-year-old loves boxes, and his fans love watching him squeeze into them.
