This could be a good time to put on an apron and try these three easy, ’Gram-worthy recipes that have gone as viral as the coronavirus itself.
Cloud bread
This oh-so-fluffy bread is all the rage right now, appearing on social media in all the colours of the rainbow. There’s something really satisfying seeing people ripping into and squishing their cloud bread.
The best part? You probably have all the ingredients at home.
Ingredients:
- 3 egg whites
- 2 ½ tablespoons sugar
- 4 teaspoons cornstarch
- Food colouring (optional)
Directions:
1 Preheat oven to 300 degrees Celsius.
2 Beat egg whites in an extremely clean bowl until bubbly.
3 Add the sugar and cornstarch, and whip everything together until you get stiff peaks. The mixture should look smooth and creamy like shaving cream, and shouldn’t slide when you tilt the bowl.
4 Add the food colouring if using.
5 Shape the mixture into a dome, scoop onto a lined baking tray, and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Cereal pancake
If you have time to kill before breakfast (or anytime of the day, really), this is the perfect recipe. It basically requires piling lots of mini pancakes into a bowl and eating them with a spoon, just like cereal! They are really versatile; serve them instead with any pancake topping. Maybe don’t completely replace your fibre-packed muesli, but this is a great treat.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups pancake mix
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- some butter (for greasing the pan)
Directions:
1 Stir the pancake mix, milk and eggs until they are blended together. Make sure there are no clumps.
2 Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium-high heat. Lightly grease with a little butter.
3 Pour pancake batter into a squeezable bottle. If you don’t have one, pour it into a Ziploc bag, and cut a tiny hole in the bottom corner.
4 Squeeze small dots of batter onto the hot, greased pan. Cook until the bubbles form on the top of the pancakes and they look dry. Flip with a spatula and cook until golden underneath, about another 1-2 minutes. 5 Repeat with remaining batter, lightly greasing the pan between each batch.
6 Serve with milk, or your favourite toppings.
