The members of K-pop's newest girl band, Aespa. Photo: Via Youtube/SMTownAespa are the newest K-pop band on the block, and with two teenagers, a pretty young one. They debuted their first music video, Black Mamba, yesterday, and have already racked up more than 20 million views on YouTube.
The group is made up of four girls ranging in age from 18 to 20: Karina and Winter are South Korean, Giselle is Japanese, and Ningning is Chinese. Represented by SM Entertainment, they are following in the footsteps of major groups like Girls’ Generation, Red Velvet and NCT.
The name Aespa is said to be a combination of the letters“ae”, which stands for “avatar experience”, and the “sp” from “aspect”, meaning “two sides”. Overall the group name symbolises “meeting another self and experiencing the new world”.

This song is a powerful introduction into the Aespa universe, and is accompanied by exciting visuals and strong choreography. Each member of the group has a corresponding avatar, all of whom are threatened by the black mamba that they sing about.
