Singing together is a way to share the joy of music.One person singing a song sounds great, but sometimes two people singing together sounds even better. Here are some of the Young Post team’s favourite duets to sing in a karaoke room.
Out of Our Minds is my all-time favourite. This powerful song always gives me warm, fuzzy feelings, and makes me feel at peace. I don’t think I can ever get tired of Katie Costello and Greg Holden’s lovely harmony, and the uplifting lyrics: “Let’s get out of our minds today/And take a little time to look at the stars and the moon above/Wishing someone like you/ Was staring at them too.”

One of my favourite duet songs is Closer by The Chainsmokers. It’s not a complicated song, and the lyrics are (like many songs by the duo) pretty repetitive … but I love it all the same. It’s just got a nice beat to it, and I definitely sing along to it whenever it pops up on my Spotify playlists.

My favourite duet is Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. I first heard the song when I watched the movie, Stepmom. It’s such a fun, feel-good song that is always a hit at karaoke!

I don’t know a lot of duets so I’ll pick Something There from Disney’s animated classic Beauty and the Beast. The Beast is doing his best to be a gentler companion and Belle is slowly learning to meet him halfway. Also, Belle owning the Beast in their snowball fight is pretty cool.

My favourite duet is Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. It has a cheery, upbeat tune, the lyrics are simple and meaningful, and best of all, it reminds me of the time I was in love with my best friend.

It would be impossible for me to choose between all the Broadway and Disney duets I love so I’m gonna go with No Matter Where You Are by Us the Duo. I’ve been following this singing couple since they started posting six-second covers on Vine. Their voices blend together so beautifully, and they’ve done so many great covers together, as well as some original songs. No Matter Where You Are is a special one for them because they wrote it and used it as their wedding vows, and it was later featured in the animated film The Book of Life.

While my favourite karaoke duet is When You Believe, it takes quite a lot of effort to get it right (I have been known to put it on repeat 10-15 times …). So I’d have to say the glorious, dancetastic blend of the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin, and the wonderfully soulful George Michael on I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me). Both singers died fairly recently, which is upsetting on a personal level, but this song gives me life and is a reminder of how spectacular, in very, VERY different ways, they both were.
