Inspired by International Literacy Day on Saturday, September 8 but not sure what to read? The goal of this day, first started on October 26, 1966, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), was to remind the international community of the importance of literacy, and the need to help build more literate societies around the world.
This year, the theme was "Literacy and skills development". We may take the ability to read for granted, but for many people, illiteracy is a reality, and it keeps millions of people from a better quality of life.
To celebrate, why not pick up something new - whether it's one of this year's new releases, or our favourite reads we turn to time and again.
Some of our favourite reads so far of 2018
A Spoonful of Murder by Robin Stevens
Books you should read - or reread - before you leave school
Six picks from The College Board: 101 Great Books list you should read right now
Seven books that will change you for the better
The books that have inspired us and changed our lives
And a bonus: how many of the bookish questions on this quiz can you get right?
