Brazil, the country with the world’s second-highest Covid-19 death toll, has seen a growing number of pregnant women, babies and young children dying from the disease. On April 16, 2021, the country asked women to avoid getting pregnant as Brazil fights a more deadly coronavirus variant known as P1. While there is evidence that Covid-19 rarely kills young children, the deaths among young children and babies in Brazil has been linked to the sheer number of cases there. As of April 28, Brazil had recorded a total of 14,441,563 cases and 395,022 deaths.
