The World Health Organization’s (WHO) chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan said current data indicates that Covid-19 booster shots are not needed for now. The WHO official was speaking at a press conference on August 18, 2021, the same day that US President Joe Biden announced that his administration will recommend Amercians get booster jabs eight months after they complete their first round of vaccinations. The WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also suggested that the priority should be to get vaccines to low-income countries first since global supplies are short.
