WHO says the world needs faster vaccination rate after G7 announces donation of doses

The World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has called for the world to speed up the pace of vaccinations against Covid-19. Speaking at a conference in Geneva, Switzerland on June 14, 2021, the WHO director general also said the UN health body welcomes the donation of 870 million vaccine doses from Group of Seven (G7) countries, in a move meant to help poorer nations speed up vaccinations. Bruce Aylward, who is in charge of WHO’s Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator programme, said the world has the resources to ensure developing countries have the resources they need. But the WHO’s emergency response programme chief Michael Ryan said the world can spend more to tackle Covid-19.
