WHO mission leader on ‘political pressure’, difficulty accessing data during Wuhan origin study

The leader of the World Health Organization (WHO) mission that travelled to China to investigate the origins of Covid-19 said the team felt “political pressure”, including from outside China. But the international experts were never pressured to alter their report, said WHO scientist Peter Ben Embarek speaking as their final document was released. on March 30, 2021. The experts said the virus had probably been transmitted from bats to humans through another animal, and that it was "extremely unlikely" that the origin was a leak from a research laboratory. Ben Embarek also said the team struggled to get around China's restrictions and privacy laws when accessing raw data and he called for further studies.
