China condemns US ‘bullying’ as Trump’s 104% tariffs kick in, vows resolute measures

China’s foreign ministry on April 9, 2025, called on the United States to stop its “arrogant and bullying behaviour” after US President Donald Trump’s 104 per cent duties on Chinese imports kicked in. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said the US continues to impose tariffs on China “indiscriminately”. Trump's “reciprocal” tariffs on dozens of countries also took effect on April 9, deepening his global trade war and spurring more widespread selling across financial markets.
