School of rock: Chinese student band’s music open doors in remote mountain village

The mountains are alive with the sound of rock music in China’s southern province of Guizhou where students in the remote village of Haiga formed a band that has earned some respect from the nation’s top musicians. The group called Haiga Youngsters formed after some encouragement from one of their teachers, a rock fan who hoped the music would open new horizons for his pupils. The band has improved to the point that it has earned a place on stage with leading Chinese rock acts such as Miserable Faith and New Pants.
