BIS chief Carstens: High interest rates to stay even if a US recession might be 'avoided' in 2023

Bank for International Settlements (BIS) chief Agustin Carstens said the US economy might be able to avoid falling into recession in 2023, after recent figures related to the job market and general economic activity have "surprised on the upside". In an exclusive interview with the Post on December 6, 2022, the general manager of the institution known as the “monetary authority of the world's central banks” said he expects high interest rates to remain for some time. Carstens also said there is consensus among central banks to tackle inflation "quickly and in an opportune way".
