Public investment increasingly focused on business that helps the environment

Val Smith, Citi's chief sustainability officer, said that the bank's assets linked to sustainable investing have grown by 19 per cent in the past year as the industry puts a greater focus on investment products designed to support businesses that are helping the environment.

Smith said the bank is close to exceeding its own internal goal to lend and invest US$100 billion by 2023 in projects that create environmental solutions and address climate change.
