Why some South Koreans hope Trump-Kim talks won’t lead to closure of US military bases
When US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un meet in Hanoi on February 27 and 28, 2019, denuclearisation will be one of the big issues on the table.
The talks could also initiate a formal end to the Korean war – a conflict that never officially ended – and some fear that would jeopardise the US-South Korean alliance, resulting in the withdrawal of the US army from South Korea.
