We asked our readers which character who dies in a book or film they wish they could bring back to life. Here are some of our favourite answers

I am sure we can all agree that the death of Dobby in Harry Potter left us all emotionally devastated. He is such a lovable and sweet character – his death brought tears to my eyes.

Love is forever
It would be Jack from the movie Titanic. Although the film’s ending is very touching, I much prefer happy endings to tragic ones. I think Jack and Rose deserved to be together forever!

Reunite Ellie and Carl
I would bring Ellie from the film Up back to life. In the first few minutes of the movie, we see her with Carl, and realise how happy they are and how much they love each other – then it’s all taken away! I would love to see them reunited.

Beloved Snape
A lot of beloved characters die in Harry Potter, but there’s one death which stands out: Severus Snape’s. It isn’t until his death that we find out how misunderstood he was, and how hard he tried to protect Harry. I would love to bring him back to life because I want to know more about him.

World’s coolest villain
Definitely Jim Moriarty from the BBC’s Sherlock series! Yes, he probably deserved to die, but his death was still a shame because he is undoubtedly the coolest villain in the world. His character was smart, daring and funny, and made the show more exciting.

Devoted dog deserved better
Hachi’s story will definitely bring a tear to your eye. The film, Hachi: A Dog’s Tale, was based on the abandoned animal’s strong bond with a university professor. Hachi spent many years waiting at a train station for his owner to come back, not knowing that he had already died.
If I could bring Hachi back to life, I would take him home and give him the life he deserved. I love you, Hachi!

A lesson on true love
I wish Romeo from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet could be brought back to life, because the play’s ending was way too sad. Instead of killing themselves, the couple could have just run away together, and still teach their families a lesson. Win-win.

It would have to be Augustus Waters from The Fault in our Stars. He’s charming and witty, and most of all, he deserved to be with Hazel. They were such an adorable couple and should have been able to spend the rest of their lives together.

Return with a bang
I wish I could bring back Bing Bong from the Pixar movie Inside Out because he is funny, considerate and super cute. It was so selfless to sacrifice himself in the film. I definitely shed a tear.

The dark side of the Force
I would like to see Darth Vader from Star Wars come back from the dead. He could learn to be a Jedi again, reconnect with Luke and Leia, and of course, destroy the remains of the Empire he had built. Maybe he could help Luke rebuild the Jedi Order, or teach Leia how to use the Force. Who wouldn’t want to see the Skywalkers in action or doing some normal family stuff?
